ABOUT MESSENGER 11:11:

I started this project at the end of 2019, just as the pandemic began. I wrote in my diary "queer space opera" and had the idea for Mercury to put together an album of queer punk poetry, all spoken word. Because of the social impact on free speech and freedom that the pandemic has caused, the album began to morph into my own version of matrix futurist anxiety and an imagining of what utopia might feel like if we truly came together and not just because of a virus and a vaccine. I wanted to embody the messenger character, also referencing MRNA and social media chat-apps. A mythological reference to mercury that is always depicted as neutral, non-partisan - representative of a non binary planet; Mercury (Virgo/Gemini). Mercury also represents the acceptance of self and others. These themes felt so fitting in this time that in a way this project created itself. I was possessed by some force greater than me that expected way more of me than I thought I could create. But here it is. My alternative Matrix 4 because I can't watch it unless I get a booster shot and I don't want to. So the irony of this is actually nauseating.

What I have made is a punk, queer (as a verb) human account of the pandemic, told from ground level and filmed only with smart phones covering themes of death, of accepting myself and others, of believing we can use community to support us and not systemic models of predation and to bring forth issues in a climate of binary politics and censorship in a fearless punk, direct way that is also encouraging of discourse and diplomacy. I want to inspire creativity and spirituality outside of centralised dogmas, to decentralise the archetype of jesus, judas, lucifer, buddha etc - to breakdown the structures of religion that stop many from believing in something more than themselves, however they choose to define it. In a hyper material time, in which we quite literally are creating matrix, metaverse realities. It is more important than ever to remember who we are, or at worst, who we were... humans. Also it seemed fitting for the planet of logos and the mind, to bring forth my planet symbols, primary font and full visual style for this ongoing project.

Release on 2012/2021 - to echo the Aztec/Mayan end of the world prophecies, the album was written in Berlin, ground zero of WW2 and created in Athens, birthplace of democracy. Somehow these two cities feel extremely potent in this time. Their histories have influenced me greatly and it gives me so much gratitude to have the privilege to produce these in such powerful creative spaces.

Thank you to everyone who gave their energy for this project, a few more months of Mercury and back to producing the next album, Sun.

MY SWORD IS MY WORD AND MY WORD IS LOVE

MERCURY IS THE PLANET OF SYMBOLS & LANGUAGE. WHY? BECAUSE IT IS CLOSEST TO THE SUN, RECEIVING ITS LIGHT IN THE MOST POTENCY OF ANY OTHER PLANET AND SO IT IS THE TRANSLATOR OF LIGHT, TO FORM. IT IS SO IMPORTANT HOW WE SPEAK. WE SPEAK TOO MUCH. WE SAY TOO MUCH AND WHAT RESULTS IS A WORLD OF CHAOS, NOISE, CONSPIRACY, DRAMA, DISHARMONY. THIS SLOGAN ENCOURAGES US TO AIM FOR LOVE, TO SPEAK ONLY WHAT WE NEED TO SAY AND TO TALK WITH INTENT. WORDS SHAPE REALITY AND EVERY WORD IS A SPELL, EVERY WORD IS SHAPING OUR WORLD. SO I DREAM WE SHAPE IT WITH LOVE, IT MIGHT BE HARD TO FORGIVE, TO FORGET, TO TRUST THOSE WHO YOU FEAR, HATE OR DISLIKE - BUT WE CAN AT LEAST TRY. AT LEAST WE CAN BE INTENTIONAL WITH OUR WORDS AND ACTIONS. AT MOST, WE CAN UNITE.
